A post shared by Halle Berry on Jan 26, 2018 at 1:17pm PSTJan 26, 2018 at 1:17pm PST
from a few months ago, Berry wrote that she believes its been largely responsible for slowing down my aging process. The actress revealed she had been diagnosed with type 1 diabetes several years ago, and since then, she has talked about how the keto diet helps her keep her diabetes in check.
Although diabetes is incurable and the keto diet alone cant treat it, you cant deny that, health-wise, Berry seems to be doing something right.

What Is Popcorn Is It Actually Healthy
Popcorn is just what it sounds like popped corn kernels. Kernels are the fruits of corn, and a single ear of corn can have over 800 of them! There are a ton of different types of corn , but farmers in the corn belt grow a specific variation known as popping corn for popcorn. This corn has kernels that are ideal for drying and popping due to their moisture levels.
All popping corn kernels have a starchy tissue called an endosperm. When the endosperm is exposed to high heat, the moisture inside it turns to steam and rapidly expands until the kernel splits and becomes the delicious treat we know and love.
Whether or not popcorn is healthy depends on the type you eat and the diet you’re following. Fresh, air-popped popcorn is low in calories, filled with fiber, has more antioxidants than some fruits and vegetables, and may even help fight cancer.
On the other hand, movie theatre popcorn is a concentrated bucket of saturated fat and calories delicious, yes, but so far from what we would consider “healthy”.
Homemade Popcorn Vs Movie Popcorn
Movie popcorn, without a doubt, is often not keto-friendly! The nutrients found in your movie theatre popcorn vary depending on the chain you frequent, the size, and the flavor. On average, butter-free popcorn ranges from 300 calories for a small tub to 1,090 for a refillable tub.
While it adds a significant amount to your fat calories, the amount of carbs in it will most likely kick you out of ketosis. While a cup of homemade air-popped popcorn has 6 grams of carbs, and a cup of Skinny Pop has 4 grams of carbs, a cup of flavorless movie theater popcorn has about 8-10 grams of carbs.
You may consume movie popcorn on keto if you can limit yourself to half a cup with that giant tub and a long movie! Can you?

When You Should Avoid Popcorn On A Keto Diet
Which one seems more likely: having a single cup of tasty popcorn, or having five cups of popcorn in a sitting?
For most people, self-discipline around food is not the easiest thing. If you tend to eat lots of popcorn, then you probably shouldnt make it a daily snack.
The number of carbs you can eat per day on keto will vary according to your body type, goals, and health history. Some people can eat a full five-cup serving of popcorn with 25 grams of net carbs and stay in ketosis, but thats not the case for everyone.
If you find yourself overeating, gaining unwanted body fat, not losing weight, or otherwise not hitting your keto goals, you might want to avoid popcorn on keto.
If you do want to eat popcorn, use the stove top method or an air popper instead of microwave popcorn. That way you have control over what oils and any toppings you use, and you can avoid unnecessary artificial flavors and other unhealthy ingredients.
When you go to the movie theater, keep in mind that theater popcorn is most likely highly processed and filled with harmful additives and added sugars. As such, taking your own keto snacks might be a wise decision.
Can I Eat Peanut Butter On A Ketogenic Diet
The short answer is not really. Peanuts are legumes and not nuts and legumes are not part of a keto diet.
There are a number of reasons why people do snack on peanuts and peanut butter on a ketogenic diet.
- Peanuts and peanut butter are cheap compared to nuts and nut butter, so it is a more affordable snack compared to many other snacks for the ketogenic diet.
- They are packed with fiber so the net carb content, even though much higher than nut butters, are still reasonable.
If your focus is to eat only food items that are strongly ketogenic, then you don’t want to eat peanuts or peanut butter.
The same is true when you just start out on your ketogenic diet.
If however your focus is on your daily net carb intake, rather than the precise foods you eat, then go ahead and have raw peanut butter.
If you are in a maintenance phase, then you are probably more focused on your total net carbs for the day.
So have them if you want them.
Lastly be sure that you do not have a peanut allergy as it could affect your weight loss and general health.
If you ask for my personal view on whether peanut butter is good for keto.
Then my answer is no. But it may be different for you.
When you start out, give it a miss for a while and later if you want to introduce it back into your diet, experiment!

Carbs In Homemade Popcorn
The keto diet is a high-fat, low-carb diet, so whether popcorn is keto-friendly or not depends on the carb it contains. This all depends on how popcorn is made at home.
Homemade popcorn can be prepared in five ways: air-popped, microwaved, oil-popped, and kettle corn.
- A cup of air-popped plain popcorn has about 6 grams of carbs or 2-5 grams of net carbs
- A cup of microwaved popcorn has about 5-10 grams of carbs or 3-8 grams of net carbs
- A cup of oil-popped popcorn has about 5-10 grams of carbs or 3-8 grams of net carb
- A cup of kettle corn has about 10-21 grams of carbs or 8-11 grams of net carbs.
Dont be confused between carbs and net carbs. Carbs include all the different types of carbs in a food or meal, such as starches, dietary fiber, and sugars. Net carbs only include carbs that the body digests and absorbs into glucose.
To compute net carbs, simply subtract the fiber content and sugar alcohols from the total carbohydrates.
All but kettle corn is keto-friendly as each cup only contains a few grams of carbs. You can consume air-popped, oil-popped, or microwaved popcorn as long as you can only limit yourself to about a cup.

Pro Tips For Eating Popcorn On Keto
Since your goal is to reduce carb counts, the best way to eat popcorn on keto is to eat it without any extra sugar or carb-containing additives. That eliminates all movie theater popcorn, all microwave popcorn, any sugary popcorn like kettle and caramel, and any other flavors that add extra carb-containing ingredients to their popcorn.
In short, make homemade air-popped popcorn and toss it with salt and pepper for the best results! Or better yet, choose a different, lower-carb snack altogether.

The Best Type Of Homemade Popcorn
Now that you know that a cup of homemade popcorn is okay to have on keto, you might be wondering the best way to prepare it. While basing your food choices on their carb count is the first rule on the diet, you should also consider if theyre healthy or harmful for you.
Avoid pre-packaged microwaveable popcorn. Its packaging and flavorings contain PFOAs, the same thing that gives Teflon pans their bad reputation, and diacetyl, which is a chemical that can cause lung issues when inhaled.
It also has bad fats, preservatives, and other packaging chemicals that may pose health risks to you.
Kettle corn is already off the list because it is not keto-friendly and has a high amount of calories. Instead, stick to oil-popped popcorn so you can control the type of oil to use for a good source of fat. Oil-popping your popcorn will also help avoid unnecessary artificial flavors and ingredients.
For oil-popped popcorn, which has around 3-8 grams of net carbs, be sure to use non-vegetable fats like coconut oil, butter, or ghee.
Air-popped popcorn is also a great idea because it is lower in carbs, about 2-5 grams of net carbs, and not harmful as it lets you control the amount of popcorn to prepare.
Is Popcorn Ok On A Low
You can still enjoy a serving of popcorn while on a low-carb diet. The fiber content will help keep you full and the volume might prevent you from giving in to cravings for cake and cookies. If you do choose to eat popcorn as your snack, you may have to minimize other sources of carbohydrates for that day.
