Is It Suitable For The Keto Diet
It really depends on your definition of a Keto diet.
Some choose a very strict plan that avoids ingredients like gluten and wheat starch. In this case, it’s probably not a great choice for a super clean ketogenic diet.
Personally, I choose to follow a more lax approach that only limits carbohydrates to stay in ketosis. This is sometimes referred to as “Lazy Keto,” but it works extremely well for me.
With that being said, make a judgement-based decision as to whether or not this is something you’d consume regularly.

What Is Keto Bread
As the name suggests, keto bread is a low carb alternative to a traditional sandwich and toast bread. Unlike the traditional kind, it doesnt contain any white or wheat flour. Instead, its made with almond flour and often doesnt require any yeast. Ive been making my own version for years, ever since I started a keto diet and didnt want to give up my favorite sandwiches!
Ive been meaning to share a keto bread recipe for quite some time. Every keto dieter NEEDS to have a go-to bread to make whenever the carb cravings strike, or when you just want a classic sandwich or some toast for breakfast! Now, any kind of bread can be intimidating to make, but I promise you that this one is a game changer!
No yeast and no carbs are needed, but youd never tell. The texture of the bread is soft and fluffy in the middle and has a lovely tender crumb. It slices and toasts beautifully, and has no almond flavor whatsoever!
Even though plenty of grocery stores now stock low carb bread, this homemade recipe is so much better. Its much cheaper and something youll be baking at least once a week!
Tips To Make The Best Recipe
- You must cover the bread with aluminum tin foil before placing it in the oven. As the ingredients are extremely delicate, we dont want to risk it browning too quickly.
- Ensure there are 1-2 inches of parchment paper overhanging the sides of the loaf pan. This makes removing the bread from the pan so much easier.
- Oven makes and models differ. Mine took 40 minutes to make, but Id recommend checking up at the 35 minutes mark. Dont stress if it takes up to 45 minutes to bake.

Countryside Creamery Pure Irish Butter
So this is Aldis version of the classic Kerrygold butter. And it is just so darn fantastic!
What makes this so much better than standard butter is that this and the Kerrygold one has a much higher butterfat content. That equals more creaminess, more flavor, and more deliciousness than regular Americanized butter.
I use a bit of butter in most of my keto dessert recipes, so this is another must-have for your keto shopping list, in my opinion.
An 8 oz. bar goes for $2.29.
Simms Smoked Snack Sticks
Speaking of snack sticks, these are basically Aldis version of a Slim Jim.
Theyre a bit cheaper than the turkey snack sticks at just $2.39 for a pack of 14.
Once again, these have a little bit of added sugar. However, its not enough to affect your ketones as long as youre keeping track of your carbs.
The sticks are pretty small and have just 0.5 net carbs each. And a single serving is 4 sticks or 2 net carbs.
If youre following a stricter approach to keto – like clean keto – these might not be for you. But if youre a little more flexible, dont be afraid to give these a shot!

Is Aldis Loven Fresh Zero Carb Net Bread Keto Approved
People argue both sides of this bread being Keto approved. I think it really just depends on how strict Keto you are, if this is a good option for you. If you want to avoid grains all together, then this bread is not a good option for you on the Ketogenic diet. If you are more relaxed then you might love it!
So Is L’oven’s Fresh Zero Net Carb Bread Healthyand Is It Keto
The answer to both questions is a strong “maybe.”
If you’ve been reading EatingWell for some time, you’re probably aware that those two questions are very different. We’re firm believers that the keto diet is not your best choice .
The keto diet promotes no grains, starches, sugars or preservatives, and Aldi’s L’Oven bread has three out of the four of those features. Technically, it does have zero net carbs, though, and most keto diets aim for limiting carbs to 20 to 50 grams per day. Similar to whether paleo dieters choose to eat or abstain from grass-fed dairy, it’s a personal decision whether keto dieters will eat any of those “prohibited” items even if they’re within the overall carb count goal.
In terms of the nutrition of this bread, we don’t like to put anything fully off limits. That being said, we prefer to stick to bread that has as few additives as possibleeven if it comes with more calories and carbs. And why not eat the real deal bread and *actually* cure your bread craving with what your body is truly in the mood for: a few carbs?

How Does The Aldi Keto Bread Taste
Aldi Keto Bread has the same texture as regular bread. However, It is a bit denser and spongy with a light golden brown crust.
The bread slices are light and moist but a bit chewy. Its taste really resembles the carb-heavy bread. After one bite, you will feel the delicious and attractive taste. This flavor is enough to appeal to keto dieters.
Simply Organic Chicken Sausages
I also picked up the Mild Sweet Italian and Spinach with Spring Greens and Garlic flavors of these organic chicken sausage links.
I love these because they dont have any added sugar, unlike many other sausage link options on the market.
That said, as far as carb count goes, youre looking at just 1 net carb per sausage link for both flavors!
And each ¾ lbs. pack has 5 chicken sausages and costs $4.89.

- Keto Bread at Aldi Aldi has a new product called LOven Fresh Zero Net Carbs Bread. It seems to be flying off the shelves since we have not been able to get our hands on a loaf yet to review it. Be on the lookout for keto bread next time you are at Aldi.
- Keto Bread at Sprouts Sprouts carries a line of high protein, low carb breads under the brand name Chompies. We were recently able to try Chompies, and while it did taste pretty good, the ingredients are not the best. Its not something we would buy again.
- Local Keto Bread The last option would be to find a local bakery near you that makes keto bread. There are more companies catering to the low carb customer than ever before, so while this might not be an option in every city, its worth a look!
Never ignore the serving size listed on store bought breads because they and sometimes be deceptive!
How I Ranked The Different Brands
The brands included all have less than 12 grams of net carbs per serving.
Net carbs are calculated as the total carb amount minus fibers and sugar alcohols. We look at net carbs and not total carbs since fibers and most sugar alcohols wont get converted into glucose and therefore dont impact blood sugars.
I have given each brand a score from 1-5 based on:
These are of course subjective measures, but I hope this review will still give you get a good idea of which brands are good and which have room for improvement.
I have listed the brands based on the net carbs per serving, from lowest to highest.

Liberated Coconut Flourless Bread is a no-flour, no-dairy, grain-free, gluten-free, and low-carb bread.
Because of the lack of flour and the coconut content, this bread is not as airy and light as the other bread, but it has a thick texture and higher weight when compared to normal bread. The coconut it contains gives it a slightly sweet flavor.

Aldi Bread: Is It Really Keto
If you ask anyone on the ketogenic diet what they miss most about their high-carb days of the past, chances are, being able to eat bread is somewhere in their response. While there are plenty of keto bread alternatives out there, most will cost you over $10 for one loaf. When Aldi announced its new keto bread by La Oven for only $2.99, its easy to understand why it instantly became a viral sensation.
The new Aldi bread is advertised on its packaging as being keto-friendly with zero net carbs , but how accurate are these statements? Not all fibers are created equal and even if something is listed as fiber on the packaging, it may still have a metabolic impact. We took a look at the ingredient panel and this is what we found.

On this side, I put almond butter, coconut flakes, chia seeds, and strawberries, and, on the other, I have some spinach and a fried egg sunny side up.
This bread is actually really good it tastes like regular bread. I give this bread a 10/10 because it can handle the sweet, and it can handle the savory. It has 5 grams of protein, 9 grams of carbs, 9 grams of fiber, and its only 40 calories a slice! So, all in all, a definite 10/10!

Disadvantages Of Aldi Keto Bread:
Cause side-effects for certain unhealthy ingredients:
Although the Aldi Keto Bread has served as a beneficial alternative for many such individuals who have been extremely conscious about their health, it has also acted as a drawback in various ways.
The most important one being the fact that since it contains an extremely high amount of wheat protein, the Aldi Keto Bread has caused serious side-effects. They also contain other harmful ingredients which include soy, wheat, barley and others which have not created a positive impact on the health of an individual.
Available only in a single supermarket chain
Being available in a single supermarket chain, the Aldi Keto Bread has acted a drawback in many such situations.
It has been seen that it remains out of stock for most of the time and this results in creating a disruption of the keto diet plan of an individual. During such times it becomes hard for the individuals to find the right alternatives for the same.
Overseas generated ingredients:
Most of the ingredients which are used in manufacturing the Aldi Keto Bread come from the overseas market. This can be time consuming and extremely harassing because it may run frequently out of stock and retaining those back in the market may take up a lot of time.
Since the ingredients mostly come from overseas without which they cannot be prepared, it also results in increasing the air miles.

Your Keto Bread Replacement Has Arrived
When you first set out to make a bread low carb, you are going to need to replace all purpose flour with a low carb alternative. Typically we use almond flour or coconut flour.
Almond flour provides more flavor and a generally more delicious result.
Coconut flour is much more absorbent and can oftentimes result in a dry loaf of bread.
Rather than trying to substitute coconut flour for almond flour, you are usually better off looking for alternative keto recipes that uses your desired flour, because they behave so differently in recipes. Either option is going to be a big improvement over wheat bread.
Appleton Gourmet Deli Selection
This assorted tray of deli meats costs $4.49 and has Hot Calabrese, Hot Capocollo, and Pepper Salami.
And the whole tray has just 2 net carbs!
Theres a little added sugar. But once again, its not enough to kick you out of ketosis.
That being said, if youre avoiding all added sugar in your keto diet, youll probably want to go with the prosciutto instead.

Can You Eat Thinslim Zero Net Carb Bread
If you look at the nutritional facts table, it might seem like finally, a ketogenic bread with 0 net carbs in on the market. But, if you look at the ingredients table, you will see that it might not be the case.
When analyzing the ingredients, you may notice that there are Wheat Protein Isolate, Vital Wheat Gluten, and Modified Wheat Starch.
But what are they? Modified Wheat Starch is a carbohydrate that has been artificially modified physically, enzymatically, or chemically in order to enhance or diminish some of its attributes. Modified starches are not keto-friendly and should be avoided on the keto diet.
Wheat Protein Isolate and Vital Wheat Gluten are the main ingredients in ThinSlim low-carb bread. They are proteins that are isolated from wheat and separated from the starch.
Even though they are starch-free, they are gluten, and while some keto and low-carb dieters do not avoid gluten completely, others strive to exclude it from their diet, so if you are avoiding gluten keep this in mind.
To sum it all up, ThinSlim Zero Net Carb bread is not strictly keto-friendly as it contains modified wheat starch. But, if you are someone who is on a low-carb diet and just wants bread that will not be as high in net carbs as normal bread, then you can consume it.
