Keto Pizza Sauce Options
No Sugar Added Sauces
Pizza sauce is going to have some sugar in it, but youll want to look for a variety that doesnt add any refined sugar to their recipe. Tomatoes have naturally occurring sugar in them, so 3-4 grams of carbs per 1/4 cup serving of tomato sauce is to be expected. Some of the sweeter marinara sauces will add lots of sugar and can contain 15+ grams of sugar per serving.
Note: If you love sweet sauce, you can add a keto friendly calorie sweetener to one of the tomato sauce options above!
This is our preferred option because it only takes a small amount of a really good pesto sauce to put your low carb pizza crust over the top. Additionally, pestos can be a great way to add healthy fats to your keto meals. Just be on the lookout for low quality vegetable and seed oils in these. You might have to pay a bit more, but youll be able to find olive oil based pesto sauces at most grocery stores.
Note: Pestos come in many shapes and sizes. I personally find a basil pesto to be the best for a pizza topping if youre going for a traditional Italian flavored pizza.
You can also use an alfredo sauce for the base of your pizza, but it can be difficult to find one that does not use processed vegetable oils.

Oven Time For Fathead Pizza Crust
The oven time for this Fathead pizza crust will vary depending on how thinly you roll it out. I did find that it cooks a bit more quickly than the original.
I like my low carb pizza crust very thin, so it only took about eight minutes for mine, but you can adjust the thickness to your liking. Just watch it in the oven, and poke more holes in the top if it starts to bubble up.

Zero Carb Pizza Crust Recipe
Before changing my way of eating to keto, I ordered from pizza places at least once a week. There was nothing better than a thin crust cheese pizza with extra sauce it was a euphoric experience. This routine was quickly dropped and sadly missed upon starting keto.
Like you, Ive tried many keto pizza crust recipes: cauliflower, fat head dough, canned chicken, skillet, pork rind etc. The recipes I tested never quite fit the bill and I learned real pizza was hard to replicate. Until this zero carb pizza crust recipe!

What The Heck Is Fathead Pizza Crust
This is the exact question my husband asked as he reached for a third slice. Fathead pizza crust was born from the Fat Head documentary, in which Tom Naughton explores how a low-carb, high-fat diet might improve everything from cholesterol to heart disease. Fathead, like Atkins and other low-carb diets, was a precursor to the now popular ketogenic diet.
Dont get too caught up in the origins of this pizza crust, though, because even if youre not following a low-carb diet, this pizza dough is so smart and delicious. This is a pizza dough that I would absolutely make regularly, not just when Im out of flour for traditional pizza dough or serving gluten-intolerant guests.

Can I Eat Pizza On Keto
Because tradition pizza crust is high in carbs, many think pizza is a no-no on a low-carb diet. While some may choose to eat pizza without the crust, this recipe gives you a more fulfilling option.
You will need to be careful about the toppings you put on your pizza. Some toppings can significantly increase the number of carbs. Because of this, I devoted a later section to low-carb topping suggestions.

How To Make Keto Fathead Pizza
To begin you will need shredded mozzarella cheese, 1 oz cream cheese. Microwave the mozzarella and cream cheese for 45 seconds or until slightly melted. Now stir until the cream cheese is fully incorporated. It may seem a little hard at first but will soon come together.
The next step is to simply add in the egg, almond flour, baking powder, and herbs. Mix until completely incorporated. The dough will seem sticky but that is fine.
To roll out the doughyou have to options: because the dough is going to be soft and sticky, you can either roll it between two sheets of parchment paper or wet or grease your hands and pat it down flat with your hands.
The dough will need to be baked twice, once for the crust to bake and the next for the cheese and toppings. The first time it is baked for 10 minutes. While its baking the first time, this would be a good time to prepare the toppings!
This is my favorite part and where you can get really creative and make the pizza your own. Add your favorite sauces and toppings to the pizza crust and return to the oven to bake for another 5-8 minutes or until the crust is done to your desired doneness and the cheese is gooey and melted!
Use A Pizza Stone Or Cast Iron Pan
You can use a pizza stone or cast iron pan to cook your pizza. These store heat and help to make the crust crispier. When using these tools you want to place them in the oven while it is preheating. This will bring them up to temperature. Then you will place your pizza crust recipe onto an already heated pan, instead of a baking sheet that is at room temperature and will take several minutes to get up to temperature.
This is a nice bonus, but it is not necessary to making a great pizza.

Why Is My Cauliflower Crust Soggy
To prevent a soggy crust , youll need to get rid of any extra moisture from the cauliflower. The best time to do this is after its been cooked and chopped up in the food processor, but before mixing it up with the rest of the ingredients.
- Place the cauli on paper towels to squeeze out any moisture.
- Or wrap up the cauliflower in some cheesecloth or thin linen cloth and squeeze out as much moisture as you can.
- You could also place the pieces on a baking tray in the oven at a low temperature to dry it out before moving onto the next step.
Can You Make This Low
While this pizza crust is simple and easy to make whenever you have that pizza craving, sometimes its nice to have it ready to go.
To make this crust ahead of time, simply follow the instructions through step 7. Dont add the toppings and do the second baking.
Instead, allow it to cool completely on a cooling rack. This step is very important and will keep your crust from getting soggy.
After the crust has completely cooled, put it in an airtight container or wrap it up well with plastic wrap. An extra large plastic zip bag meant for pies would work for this as well. Refrigerate for up to three days, or freeze for up to three months.
To use the made-ahead crusts, defrost the crust if it is frozen. Next, preheat the oven to 350ºFahrenheit.
Place the crust on a cookie sheet or pizza pan, then add your favorite toppings. Bake until the cheese melts. This usually takes about 5-8 minutes.

Ingredients You’ll Need To Make This Pizza Keto Friendly
Anyway, the main reason the crust is so good is the ingredients. There’s actually no cheeseused to make this keto pizza crust like there is in fathead pizza crust.
Instead, we’ll be using these ingredients to make our crust:
- Almond Flour
- Pinch of Salt, Garlic Powder, & Onion Powder
- 2 Eggs
- Refined Coconut Oil
If you don’t have one or two of these ingredients I highly recommend picking them up. I actually use a lot of the same ones to make a bunch of different keto recipes, one of which is my FAMOUS 2 MINUTE KETO BREAD. And, let me tell you, it’s worth getting those just for that recipe alone.
The Best Almond Flour To Use For Your Keto Pizza
Almond flour is by far my favorite low carb keto friendly flour substitute. And it’s actually what the base of today’s Keto Pizza Crust Recipe is made out of.
You can use it in so many different recipes and have amazing results. It mimics regular flour unbelievably well. So much so, that if you didn’t tell someone the base of this keto pizza recipe was made with almond flour, they probably wouldn’t know!
As far as the brand of almond flour I like to use, I like the Kirklands Blanched Almond Flour.
The reason I like Kirklandsis because it’s MUCH cheaper than other brands, and it has the lowest amount of net carbs per serving. Every 28 grams of that almond flour has just 2 net carbs!
Other Flours To Consider Using
If you wondering if you have to use almond flour, the answer is no.

Recipe Notes And Tips
Larger portions: If you want to make a larger pizza, you can double the recipe. Press it to the same thickness, and you will have a pizza thats 12-14 across.
The importance for shredded mozzarella: Pre shredded mozzarella has anti-caking agents that will help your pizza crust hold its shape. So be sure to purchase that instead of shredding a block yourself. Opt for an organic brand, which should have more keto-friendly additives.
Keto ingredients: Also, be sure that any toppings that you purchase align with the keto diet.
Prepping your dough in advance: You can definitely make the dough for this keto pizza crust ahead of time. However, the ingredients will become firm when refrigerated. So make sure to spread it out after mixing and chill it as a disk. This is when a rolling pin comes in handy!
Freezing your crust: Have leftover dough? Bake the pizza crust and freeze it! Remove the crust from the freezer and top with tomato sauce, Italian seasoning, toppings, and cheese. Finally, bake at 400° for 10-15 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbling and beginning to brown.
How to get a crispy pizza crust: Drizzle a bit of olive oil for extra crunch.
