Powdered sweetener will help with texture and flavor, but you might also need coconut milk to thin the frosting. If you dont have coconut milk you can also use almond or cashew based nut milks.

This frosting recipe is so simple and only takes about 15 minutes to make. To successfully make any cream cheese frosting, just a little bit of preparation is required. First, make sure to set out the cream cheese for 45 minutes-1 hour before making the frosting. That said, if you don’t have a piping bag, you can easily make one.

And, finally, cut a tiny piece off of the tip of the corner where the icing is, and you’ve got yourself a piping bag.

Can I Freeze Buttercream
If you have a lot of excess you can freeze leftover frosting. Regular butter freezes really well so you shouldnt expect and big consistency changes.
Simply store the frosting in an airtight container for up to 3 months. When ready to use, remove from the freezer and place into the fridge to defrost overnight. For a quicker defrost you can place the closed tupperware on the counter at room temp.

Why Is My Cream Cheese Frosting Runny
Some cream cheese recipes do have a tendency to come out too runny, to the point where it wont even coat or stick to your cake. This is because of the water content in the cream cheese. In order to avoid runny frosting, make sure to drain the excess water from the cream cheese with a small towel.
Thinking of dialing back on the fat? Think again because low-fat variants contain more water, so its best to use full fat cream cheese.
Keto Cream Cheese Frosting Ingredients
4 simple keto friendly ingredients are all you need to make this keto frosting.
And there’s a good chance you have all of them at home already!
That said, here’s what you’ll need:
- ½ cup softened cream cheese
- 3 Tbsps. softened butter
- ½ teaspoonvanilla extract
Now, for the cream cheese make sure you use the block cream cheese and not the “spreadable” kind. If you use the “spreadable” one the consistency will be off with your frosting.
Also, it needs to be at room temperature before mixing too. Otherwise, you’ll have a hard time mixing/combining it into the other ingredients.
Simply double or triple the amount of each ingredient, and you’ll be good to go.

Ingredients For Strawberry Sugar Free Buttercream
Butter and cream cheese – It is absolutely essential that both butter and cream cheese are room temperature! Otherwise, the mixture can curdle. The cream cheese MUST be full fat. Also, I found that using a quality brand such as Philadelphia resulted in superior smoothness.
Powdered sweetener – I used an erythritol monk fruit sweetener that is a 1:1 sugar alternative. Xylitol or allulose works as well. Arguably, allulose is the best option because it melts just like sugar. However, it’s tricky to get hold of over here in the UK right now and it’s expensive. Eryhritol blends are my go-to and they work just fine.
Strawberries and xanthan gum – I used 180g of strawberries which I reduced by half to thicken it . For the frosting, we need 80g or ¼ cup of strawberry puree. Xanthan gum thickens the mix further. Stir any leftovers into your morning yoghurt or add a little sweetener and use as jam.
Is It Okay To Leave Icing Out Overnight
No, you should never leave frosting with cream cheese in it out overnight. The rule when it comes to cream cheese is that it should never sit out longer than 2 hours at a time. Otherwise, bacteria will start growing, and it can make you ill. For best results, either put all the frosting in the fridge until you’re ready to use it or place the frosted baked goods in the refrigerator.

Ingredients In Keto Frosting
This recipe requires only six basic ingredients that you probably already have in your house. I used cocoa powder because I wanted this sugar-free chocolate frosting to whip up nicely and be super thick.
- Butter unsalted butter at room temperature.
- Cream cheese makes this frosting super creamy.
- Heavy cream thins up the frosting and lightens up the final result.
- Powdered sweetener or confectioners sugar replacement. It can also be sifted.
- Dark Chocolate adds an intense chocolate flavor. Use any kind that has over 85% cocoa.
- Cocoa powder use either Dutch Process or regular unsweetened cocoa, but make sure to sift it before to get rid of any clumps.
- Vanilla extract a splash of high-quality vanilla is needed.
