Keep in mind that 1 gram of fat has about 9 calories compared to 4 calories per gram of protein and carbs.
So its easy to overeat smaller foods like nuts that look like theyre not much but come packed in calories. Some nuts also contain more carbs than others so keep an eye for those.
- Dont eat too little
While its necessary to eat fewer calories than you burn to lose weight, making drastic cuts to your calories can cause your metabolism to slow even faster and increase cravings and the chances of weight regain.
Thats why its important that you dont jump on crash diets and instead take a smarter and safer approach to weight loss that will be best in the long-term.

Know Your Macronutrient Proportions
You have to know exactly how much fat, protein, and carbs youre going to eat because even the smallest slip ups can take you out of ketosis.
Lets use the macronutrient ratios of the standard ketogenic diet as an example. On a 2000-calorie diet, you need those calories to be made of:
- 75% fat
- 15-20% protein
- 5-10% carbs
Of course, each one of us has different caloric requirements. A 7-foot male football player would need significantly more calories than someone whos 57 and working a desk job, for example.
But whatever your needs are, theres calculators all over the internet that can help you navigate through your macros.

Mealtimes Can Be Tough
If youre responsible for cooking and preparing all the meals in your house, you may feel burdened to make both keto and non-keto options especially if you have children.
