Are Macadamias Healthier For You Than Other Nuts

Although all nuts are healthy in some way, it can be argued that the macadamia nut is the healthiest nut especially if you are on the keto diet.

Lets take a look at some of the advantages that macadamias have over most nuts:

  • They are lower in carbs and net carbs than most nuts.
  • They contain the most thiamin compared to other commonly consumed nuts.
  • They have more manganese than most nuts, which helps with nutrient absorption, production of digestive enzymes, bone development, and immune-system defenses.
  • They contain less protein than most nuts, which makes them great for keto.
  • They provide us with more healthy monounsaturated fats than any other nut.
  • They have the lowest amount of inflammatory omega-6 fats per serving compared to other commonly consumed nuts.

Altogether, these characteristics are what make macadamias one of the best snacks for the keto diet. They serve as a delicious nutrient-dense package of healthy fats that give you so many upsides with no downsides .

Just make sure you are mindful of where you buy them from and how you store them to get the most from your macadamia nuts.

Nuts Make A Great Keto Snack

If youre a nut lover, youll be happy to hear that nuts are a keto friendly food. Their small size makes them portable and convenient to enjoy anywhere. I slip a small bag of my favorite keto nuts into my purse on days I run errands in case I miss lunch.

Nuts are nutritionally dense containing fats, protein and carbohydrates. Just a small amount keeps me full for hours. The downside? I love nuts so much that portion control can be an issue. Overeating even the most keto friendly nuts can blow my carb or calorie allotment for the day. Caution is the rule.

A Quick Recap Of The Keto Diet

Best Keto Nuts: The Ultimate Guide to Nuts on Keto

There is no doubt that you have already heard about the keto diet, which is currently the hottest weight loss diet on the planet, but for those of you who are fairly new to the diet, here is a quick recap:

To put it simply, the ketogenic diet is a low-carb, high-fat eating plan. The goal of the diet is to shift your body into ketosis, a natural metabolic state. While in this state, the liver produces ketones, a chemical that helps to break down fats, which in turn is used as the bodys primary source of energy. The success of this diet relies mainly on the number of carbs you consume per day and, of course, maintaining your state of ketosis. By altering your lifestyle and investing in high-quality natural keto weight loss pills, you can rev up your ketone production and start melting away excess fat.

Lets start with a simple question…

True or False: I can implement a ketogenic diet eating only carbohydrates.

If you guessed false, I dont blame you. But the answer is actually true. And thats because a ketogenic diet is any diet that causes your body to produce a significant amount of ketones. So despite popular belief, you can actually get away with a 100% carb-based ketogenic diet – but youll have to SEVERELY limit your calories.

Just how much? Well…start with 200 calories per day and work your way down. Or, dont do that at all. And instead, do what smart people do…

Choose a ketogenic diet that actually works long-term.

Are Nuts Good For Keto

So are nuts Keto friendly?

There are a lot of different nuts out there, each with different nutritional values. But overall, nuts tend to be high in fat and low in net carbs. This makes them a great fit for Keto!

Nuts are also a great source of fiber, which we need for a healthy Keto diet. They even pack in protein, vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants!

The biggest thing to watch with nuts is your portion size. These little guys are simply delicious, and if you eat a few every time you walk through the kitchen , the calories can add up quickly.

When youre in the mood for a snack, I recommend portioning these out rather than eating them right from the container where youre storing them.

Cons Of Eating Nuts On Keto

Pin on KetoInfo#2

While weve gone over the benefits of nuts on keto, there are a few pitfalls to be aware of. As long as youre aware of the cons of eating nuts on keto, youll be less likely to experience them.

Lots of calories

Calories can add up quickly with certain types of nuts . For example, 100 grams of macadamia nuts, which is an average serving, contains 718 calories. The same serving size of walnuts contains just over 650 calories. Its easy to see how a quick snack can steal away a large percentage of your daily calories.

Anti-nutritious

Wait, didnt we just tell you nuts were full of nutrients? This is true, but they also contain phytic acid, which is considered anti-nutritious. It prevents the bodys absorption of calcium, iron, and zinc. More of this acid is found in raw nuts so eating soaked and roasted nuts can limit your exposure.

Easy to overeat

One handful can quickly turn into two, three, or even four, especially if youre munching on nuts while watching television or scrolling through your phone. Before you know it, you could have gone way over your calorie limit and consumed too many carbs. Eating nuts on keto is a test of willpower, which is why some prefer to leave them out of their diet.

If youre following a low-carb diet like the ketogenic diet, then youll probably want to be keeping your daily net carb intake to 15g to 30g in total, depending on your own personal goals.

So, its important to keep that in mind when assessing whether a food is or isnt keto friendly.

The Nutritional Value Of Pumpkin Seeds

The only way to tell if pumpkin seeds are safe to eat on a keto diet is by looking at their nutritional value. Much like nuts, pumpkin seeds are the embryo of the plant, meaning that they contain all the necessary nutrients needed for the plant to sprout and flourish.

Pumpkin seeds are packed with beneficial nutrients such as vitamin K, magnesium, iron, copper, and manganese. They are like tiny nutritional bullets that offer a wide range of medicinal and health benefits. Just a quarter cup of seeds amounts to almost 50% of the recommended daily intake of magnesium. In addition to that, they also offer one-third of the recommended daily intake of iron.

A ¼ cup of pumpkin seeds contains:

  • 187 Calories
  • 2.575mg Copper
  • 1.05mg Manganese

Based on these figures, pumpkin seeds are quite low in carbohydrates and high in healthy fats, which means that are safe to eat on a keto diet.
