TIP: For those looking for a shortcut, Ive created a keto bread mix. It can also be used as a base to make keto yeast bread.

If youre looking for how to make keto bread at home yourself, this recipe is your answer. And other than my bread mix mentioned above, this is definitely the best keto bread recipe Ive ever had.

Where To Buy Keto Bread Online

If youre willing to order online there are a number options out there for a keto diet. Weve tried just about every type of keto bread on the market and without a doubt our favorite is The Great Low Carb Bread Company. Some of our favorites from them are their bagels and their dinner rolls. We order from them every few months and store them in our chest freezer.

Is The Paleo Diet Healthy

Healthy is a subjective word. It can be extremely healthy if you dont overdo on the sugary fruit, nuts, nut products and the sweeteners.

If you have existed on processed foods most of your life, and you are making a switch, the paleo diet can be a game changer and bring abut positive health changes.

However, if you overdo the honey and maple syrup, you are still over-doing carbs and sugar. This can take your diet in an unhealthy direction.

Strictly speaking, the Paleo diet is gluten free, but is not necessarily keto friendly because high sugar content in most fruits, maple syrup, honey and higher carb vegetables are part of the Paleo lifestyle. However, you could follow a keto/paleo type plan by avoiding those foods, but adhering to grass fed, beef and keeping your net carbs to around 20.

My favorite Paleo meatballs are here.

What Bread Is Keto Friendly

In general keto friendly breads are made of coconut flour or almond flour. These flours are used to produce a bread that is very low in carbs, as well as being free from common allergens like soy and gluten. Making homemade bread will give you the best of both worlds as far as taste and ingredient quality go. For a sweet and moist bread option try our keto banana bread recipe.

Store bought low carb breads will typically use a much larger list of ingredients. Some common ingredients in store bought keto breads are vital wheat gluten, oat fiber, soy flour, wheat protein, and more. While these breads taste good and are more convenient than making a loaf of bread from scratch, they do contain some ingredients most people on a keto diet would like to avoid.

Your Keto Bread Replacement Has Arrived

âHealthifiedâ? English Muffins. You can have bread on a ...

When you first set out to make a bread low carb, you are going to need to replace all purpose flour with a low carb alternative. Typically we use almond flour or coconut flour.

Almond flour provides more flavor and a generally more delicious result.

Coconut flour is much more absorbent and can oftentimes result in a dry loaf of bread.

Rather than trying to substitute coconut flour for almond flour, you are usually better off looking for alternative keto recipes that uses your desired flour, because they behave so differently in recipes. Either option is going to be a big improvement over wheat bread.

Fold The Batter Dont Stir

After mixing the first half of the egg whites into the batter in the food processor, youll need to fold that mixture into the remaining egg whites. Its important not to break them down completely at this step. Otherwise, your bread will be dense and flat! Just keep folding gently until you dont have chunks or streaks.

A few people have complained about the batter being too thick to fold in the egg whites. Most likely this was a difference in measurements or ingredients, but if this happens, you can salvage it. Just pulse in a little more egg whites into the food processor to make the main batter a little thinner, then fold that into the egg whites.

Gluten Free Does Not Necessarily Mean Healthier

Despite the health claims for eating gluten-free, no scientific evidence supports weight loss with a gluten-free diet or suggests that the general population would benefit from avoiding gluten for health reasons.20

Although many people think that a gluten-free diet is healthier and more nutritious, the opposite may be true, as many products marketed as gluten-free are highly processed.

These gluten-free foods are often made with refined grains and additives such as tapioca starch, less commonly fortified with folic acid and iron, and have less fiber and more sugar compared to regular gluten-containing foods.21

In fact, several studies have actually found a tendency toward weight gain and obesity among those who follow a gluten-free diet.22

In addition, highly-processed gluten-free diets that are high in refined carbohydrates are often deficient in important nutrients such as iron, zinc, vitamin D, and protein.

We suspect that these drawbacks would be significantly attenuated by eating a whole-foods, minimally processed gluten-free diet.

Keto Bread With Vital Wheat Gluten

One of the main reasons we avoid wheat bread on keto is because of the grains but what people dont know is that the protein in wheat aka gluten is entirely keto friendly and very low carb! If youre lucky enough to be able to get your hands on some, you can make this keto bread with vital wheat gluten!

**NOTE: This bread contains gluten and therefore anyone with celiac or gluten intolerance should NOT make this bread.

So I havent tried making this vital wheat gluten bread in a bread machine but its worth a try. If anyone gives it a go let me know how it turns out!

The two main ingredients in this bread vital wheat gluten flour and almond flour. You will want to make sure that you get vital wheat gluten flour and NOT gluten flour. Most gluten flours are just high protein wheat flours that are high in carbs.

As for the loaf pan I used a 9×5 loaf tin, but I also halved the recipe and tried in a 1 loaf pan . I recommend using an 8.5 x 4.5 for optimal rise. The 9×5 was great but a little wide. The 1lb tin worked perfectly for half the recipe so a proper 8.5 x 4.5 pan will work just as well.

I used a stand mixer as seen in the video attached to this page. Its really important to check the consistency of the bread frequently. It should only take around 5-10 minutes for it to be kneaded properly so youll want to pull a piece of the dough and if it stretches without breaking then youre good to go.

Can You Eat Mikeys Grain

The main ingredients in this bread are eggs and almond flour, and the only ingredients that are not keto-friendly in Mikeys bread are the tapioca starch and the honey.

Tapioca starch is a starch derived from the roots of the cassava plant. It is mainly used as a thickener, sometimes it is used as flour and even desserts. Since it is a starch, it is high in carbs and therefore not ketogenic.

Regarding honey, almost all of its calories come from carbs and all of its carbs are net carbs as it has 0 fiber. So, it is definitely not ketogenic.

The good news is that both tapioca starch and honey are lower on the ingredient list, which means that they are not contained at large amounts- thats probably why it only has 4 grams of net carbs per slice which weighs 46 grams- double the weight of normal bread.

Technically, Mikeys Grain-Free Sliced Bread is not ketogenic, but if you do not mind small amounts of non-ketogenic foods then you can consume it.

It Forces You To Really Read Ingredients Labels

How many times have you heard some variation on I had no idea _____ had so much _____ until I read the ingredients. I cant believe Ive been eating it for years! There are whole crowds of people out there who legitimately dont know that cookies have tons of salt, or that their BBQ sauce is full of sugar, or whatever else. This isnt to shame anyone were all busy, people have other things to do than read nutrition labels, and its not exactly gripping prose. But they are important, and a lot of times we need a nudge to really pay attention to them and read them consistently and carefully.

Reading nutrition labels speaks directly to one of the most common problems that trips up well-intentioned newbies to keto. A lot of new keto eaters accidentally overeat carbs, often because they dont read the ingredients, nutrition information, or serving size information carefully. Hunting down traces of gluten forces you to carefully scrutinize the ingredients labels on any and all processed foods. This is good practice generally but its essential for keto to prevent carb creep and accidentally carbing up when you didnt mean to. Watch out for those sneaky carbs!

What Is The Difference Between Keto Paleo Gluten Free

Keto Bread Recipe With Nutritional Yeast #KetoBananaBread ...

Friends, I know how confusing the alternative food choices are and Im here to hopefully clear things up, especially when it comes to sweets, breads, biscuits and anything dough.

I mainly develop grain free, keto friendly, gluten free recipes here, although you may see other recipes as well.

Its easy to confuse gluten free, paleo and keto as one and the same. Sometimes a product can be all three, but they are not interchangeable. I will also discuss briefly the carnivore diet and the new ketovore diet at the end of this article.

  • Gluten foods are usually grain free, but not starch or sugar free. Most keto friendly foods are gluten free, but gluten free products are not necessarily keto friendly and are often high in carbs.
  • Grain free foods are usually gluten free, but not necessarily sugar free. Grain free foods are sometimes keto friendly but not always and can be high in carbs.
  • Paleo foods are grain free, are usually gluten free, sometimes keto friendly, but not always.
  • Products labeled grain free, wheat free, gluten free or keto friendly are not usually low calorie products.
  • Carnivore may or may not be a keto diet, but a keto diet is not a carnivore diet. Stay tuned for the new ketovore diet.

Confused yet? Let me help you navigate these food trends.

What Is The Best Low

If you are looking to buy low-carb bread at the store, beware. Low-carb bread from stores or online are often full of carbs as there is no standard medical definition of low carb.

Most food product producers are not regulated in their marketing claims. In addition to containing carbs, these products can also be full of ingredients that you should avoid, like sugars, starches, and industrial fats.

Why Does Gluten Get Such A Bad Rap

Gluten continues to be demonized by many health-conscious individuals. But does it deserve this reputation?

For those with celiac disease, gluten definitely deserves the bad rap. These individuals have an autoimmune reaction to gluten that can cause many health troubles, as discussed above.

But is gluten bad for those without celiac disease or a true allergy to wheat?

Although many people think that gluten-containing foods play a role in causing or worsening an array of non-gastrointestinal symptoms , there is a lack of solid evidence. The strongest statement that can be made regarding glutens association with other health problems is that, in people with suspected non-celiac gluten sensitivity, gluten might exacerbate some of their pre-existing symptoms.

There is speculation that changes to the methods of processing gluten-containing foods or an increase in gluten intake may be responsible for the rising prevalence of gluten-related conditions.15

However, given that there are several other substances in gluten-containing foods that may actually be responsible for peoples adverse reactions, it seems prudent to focus more on the types of food that contain gluten and related substances, as opposed to gluten itself.16

What Is Keto Bread And Can You Have Bread On Keto

Are you wondering if you can have bread on Keto, the answer is yes, but it needs to be low-carb. Regular white, wheat, oat, rye or multigrain breads are very high in carbs and are not allowed on the Keto diet.

Instead you can make your own or purchase bread that is gluten free, with high fiber content and lower carbs. Often made with coconut or almond flour or a combination of both.

Ketogenic bread recipes vary greatly and are made with various ingredients, but the final result is always a low-carb, sugar and gluten-free bread substitute. No, I still have not tried a low-carb bread that tastes like regular white or my favorite French bread.

If your desire is to consume low-carb foods and follow the Keto diet, Ketogenic bread is a must. This is why I put this collection together on how to make your own bread and home or purchase Keto bread at the store.

Dont Use The Toothpick Test

This will come as a surprise for many people, and its a change from my original keto bread recipe. Do not use a toothpick to test for doneness. It will seem like its done before it actually is!

Instead, use these markers of doneness for this white paleo bread:

  • The keto white bread should not make a squishy sound when you press on the center.
  • The internal temperature should reach at least 200 degrees F.

It Helps Troubleshoot Weird Nagging Health Issues

Got headaches? Random skin issues? Irritable Bowel Syndrome ? Other bizarre digestive problems that dont go away after going keto? Inexplicable fatigue? All of the above?

These are super vague and non-specific symptoms. Its hypothetically possible that they could be anything from stress to cancer. But they can all also be symptoms of gluten intolerance yes, even the weird skin symptoms and other problems that seem unrelated to digestion.

For the gut-related problems, take a quick look at some studies connecting gluten/wheat sensitivity to:

This review has an overview of all the non-gut-related stuff, including pain, brain fog, fatigue, depression/anxiety, and dermatological/skin symptoms. It sounds almost beyond belief, but theres actually evidence that gluten can be one cause of these issues. Again, they could also be caused by all kinds of other problems , but eliminating gluten/wheat for a couple weeks is an easy way to test whether or not this is an issue for you.

Bulletproof Bread Recipe: Keto Low Carb Bread

Makes 1 Loaf

  • Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Use middle rack and remove any racks above as bread will expand while baking.
  • Generously butter a loaf pan/dish with grass-fed butter.
  • Beat 6 egg whites until stiff peaks form a hand mixer on high works well. Really beat the whites until the peaks are VERY stiff. If you dont beat them enough, theyll collapse when you add the whey and egg yolks, and youll end up with a Styrofoam-like concoction. Yuck.
  • Add ½ cup of Bulletproof Collagen Protein and the 6 yolks. Blend gently on low just until fully incorporated. The batter will be fluffy.
  • Pour batter into prepared dish and place in oven.
  • Bake for 40 minutes.
  • Remove and allow to cool completely. The loaf will sink to a normal height.
  • Once fully cooled, release from dish, slice and serve.
  • Leftovers will keep in the fridge for a few days.
  • Reheating recommendation: Heat a skillet to medium-high and add ghee or grass-fed butter, sear bread slices in skillet until lightly toasted on each side, about 30 seconds per side. Do not overheat.

Use heat-stable collagen over whey protein, and keep in mind that oxidized cholesterol from the cooked egg yolks can cause a little inflammation, so dont eat this every day. Stick to every few days, if you can control yourself.
