Can I Eat Eggs On Keto

Im Scared To Do The Keto Egg Fast Because It Will Make Me Hate Eggs Forever

I cant say for sure that it wont happen, but its unlikely. I couldnt stand the thought of another egg by Day five. Had two fried eggs with butter this morning still delicious. The plan is designed to keep you from getting sick of eggs by varying the form that you eat them in and mixing up sweet and savory. I think youll be ok. If you already love eggs, then you might be looking forward to some variety by the end of the fast, but youll be back to enjoying them again soon after. That being said, if you hate eggs forever after doing this plan, I take no responsibility you knew the risks.

Risks Of A Keto Egg Fast

Most people are only on an egg fast for three to five days. Its unlikely youll experience vitamin or mineral deficiencies within such a short period.

Still, there are some risks to consider, especially if youre planning on doing it for more than five days:

  • Digestive issues: An egg fast lacks foods rich in fiber, and dietary fiber is a necessary component of gut health and a diverse gut microbiome. Restricting fiber may lead to constipation, diarrhea, or other digestive issues.
  • Vitamin deficiency: Eggs are rich in choline, vitamin A, and other essential nutrients, but they lack many others, including vitamin B12, which is important for energy and mood. For instance, on an egg fast, youll have difficulty getting enough folate, because the best sources of folate are dark, leafy greens. And since folate is required for energy production, you might feel weak or perform poorly at the gym on this diet.
  • Mineral deficiency: The minerals magnesium, molybdenum, copper, and potassium are scarce on an egg fast. Consider taking supplements, and be sure to salt your eggs to ensure adequate sodium intake
  • Medical conditions: Those with certain medical conditions familial hypercholesterolemia or those with no gallbladder may want to skip this fast. Definitely consult your doctor.

Can You Eat Eggs On Keto

Yes according to the USDA, 1 large egg contains 6 grams of protein, 5 grams of fat, and less than 1 gram of carbohydrate, making it ideal for the keto diet.

It’s hard to make an argument for eating too many eggs. I suppose if you went way over your calorie limit and avoided vegetables it’d be bad, but I don’t think that’s anything you’ll need to worry about.

Just cook them how you like in a healthy fat like olive oil or avocado oil, grind some fresh sea salt and ground pepper over them, and put a little spritz of lime or lemon for a touch of acidity before serving and you’ll be a happy egger, I promise.

What about egg yolks vs. egg whites?

Both are fine on keto! Typically the yolk is avoided due to its concentration of cholesterol. And while the yolk definitely has more cholesterol, calories, and fat than their fellow egg whites, that’s also where you get most of the eggs’ amazing nutrients!

In other words, unless you have a specific and restricting issue with cholesterol, then definitely add those yolks in.

Ketoproof Coffee with Eggs

This is my favorite way to sneak in an egg within 30 minutes of waking up. Just add an egg yolk before blending your creamy, delicious keto coffee. Dont worry it wont taste eggy.

Feel free to cook up the egg whites and eat them with some cheese or save them for the next time you make an omelet or egg wrap.

The Feta Egg Wrap

Simply follow the directions on how to make the wrap, add feta as the filling, drizzle with extra virgin olive oil or melted butter, and skip the other ingredients. Youll find the wrap to be somewhere between an omelet and a crepe, with a unique texture that you wont experience with other egg fast recipes.

Keto Scrambled Eggs

One of the simplest ways to follow the egg fast is by using hard-boiled eggs as the base of your meal. Drizzle with one tablespoon of olive oil or melted butter per egg and add salt to taste.

Cholesterol Present In Eggs

People understandably worry about the 186 grams of cholesterol present in egg yolks. Thats around 60% of the recommended daily intake based on a 2000 calorie diet, and for many years, weve been told to keep our egg consumption low to avoid it.

However, countless studies have since proven that the kind of cholesterol present in eggs only increases HDL . Very rarely do they increase LDL , and when they do, they do so very slightly.

Unless you have specific medical conditions that tightly restrict cholesterol intake, chances are you dont have to worry about the cholesterol in eggs. Similar to the myth that fat is always bad, its something thats been challenged by most up-and-coming nutritional experts.

May Reduce Insulin Resistance

The Egg Diet: Is it Safe to Eat ONLY Eggs on a Keto Diet? – Thomas DeLauer

Insulin resistance occurs when your body does not respond properly to insulin, a hormone that regulates blood sugar.

Several studies show that ketogenic diets may reduce insulin resistance, which in turn can improve your bodys ability to manage blood sugar levels.

In a small, 2-week study, people with type 2 diabetes who followed a ketogenic diet reduced their insulin resistance by 75% .

In other studies, participants with type 2 diabetes on a ketogenic diet were able to either reduce or completely stop taking their diabetes medication .

Though following an egg fast may temporarily reduce insulin resistance, long-term changes must be made to promote continued results. If you have type 1 or type 2 diabetes, speak with your healthcare provider before attempting an egg fast, as it could be dangerous.

An egg fast may offer similar benefits as conventional ketogenic diets, including weight and belly fat loss, as well as reduced appetite and insulin resistance. Still, research on egg fasting specifically is unavailable.

Quail Eggs Can You Have Them On Your Keto Diet

In a way, keto is the modern-day, upgraded, updated, embellished Atkins diet most of us have heard about at some point. Whats better about it is that keto is sustainable in the long run. But can you eat quail eggs on keto? Before we dive into this, lets clarify some details about this diet trend that has become a lifestyle for so many people who are ready to swear by it.

In a nutshell, keto, short for ketogenic, is a type of low-carb diet, where you get more calories from fat and protein than you get from carbohydrates. Eating this way tricks the body into thinking its running low on sugar.

Keto Flu And Ketosis

The immediate consequence of this is known as the keto flu. There is nothing to worry about. Its a natural process that occurs when the body gets used to extracting glucose from fat cells instead of getting it from carbs. Its called keto flu because its symptoms of tiredness and lack of energy resemble those of the actual flu.

Youll be past this in a few days, just be patient. Once the liver starts to produce ketones, your body enters a metabolic state that is known as ketosis, where your stored fat cells are used as the primary fuel for energy. Naturally, this will result in weight loss.

How Does An Egg Fast Work

Keep in mind: a diet like this is not recommended over the long-term. It should only be used as a short-term weight loss fix. Current scientific literature points to the benefit of eating plenty of healthy veggies and low-carb fruits to get your fix of vitamins and minerals, as well as fiber, and only eating eggs falls outside of those guidelines.

Remember to consult your doctor before embarking on any restrictive diet such as this one.

The egg fast is a variation of the fat fasting technique that prioritizes one of the best foods for keto: eggs.

After learning that eggs have an ideal mix of amino acids, choline, and other nutrients that may boost fat loss, Jimmy Moore of Livin La Vida Low Carb devised a diet plan based around eggs and ketosis.

Each day, he would have at least six eggs with grass-fed butter and raw cheese while following a specific meal timing schedule. With this simple diet shift, he lost ~25 pounds in 30 days.
