A Modern History Of Popcorn
In the 19th century, people popped corn on stove tops by hand. Popcorn kernels were widely available on the East Coast of the United States, and the first written usage of the term popped corn was in John Russell Bartletts 1848 Dictionary of Americanisms.
In the 1890s, a Chicago candy store owner named Charles Cretor invented a steam-powered popcorn maker that was inspired by nut-roasting machines. He sold popcorn from street carts using his steam-powered popcorn maker design, which is still in use today.
Popcorn grew in popularity during the Great Depression as an inexpensive snack. The popcorn business thrived even as other companies failed, and popcorn production became a source of income for struggling farmers.
During World War II, sugar rationing took its toll on the production of candy, and American popcorn production tripled.
People began bringing their own popcorn to movie theaters, which dismayed theater owners, who felt that the snack distracted moviegoers. Soon, though, popcorn makers appeared in the lobbies of theaters throughout the United States.
Orville Redenbacher launched his famous popcorn brand in 1970, and in 1981, General Mills patented the first microwave popcorn bag. Popcorn consumption continued to increase in the ensuing years, and still today it remains the most popular movie night snack.

How Do I Make Crunchy Mushroom Chips
A crunchy chip is the best kind of chip. So whats the trick to achieving that perfect crispy texture?
This recipe uses the low-and-slow cooking method. This ensures the mushroom slices cook slowly without burning, producing a crunchy end result.
The spray oil is also key to achieving the right texture. Too much oil can create a soggy chip, while a light spray ensures each slice cooks evenly.
Take care not to slice your mushrooms too thick. You want each slice to be nice and thin so it crisps up.
You could also use an air fryer to get extra crispy chips.

Are There Any No
Yes! While most keto chips contain a small number of carbs, some options are entirely carb-free. We’ve got some mouth-watering options for you.
Below are 11 low-carb keto chips you can make or buy. We’ll start with some homemade options and then talk through our favorite low-carb keto chip store brands.
Is Corn Good For Keto Diet
Despite corn being a vegetable, it has quite a high carb count. This is because it is a starchy vegetable. An ear of sweet yellow corn has anywhere between 13 and 27 carbs. White corn is nearly identical, in case youre thinking theres a way around these numbers. On a typical keto diet, an ear of corn will put you at risk of knocking yourself out of ketosis.
Because staying in ketosis is one of the main goals of the keto diet, corn might be seen as bad. However, we dont like to classify foods as good or bad. Rather, corn has a higher chance of affecting your ability to maintain ketosis, and therefore should be avoided.

Making Keto Tortilla Chips
To make these chips begin by mixing the flours and spices together in a large bowl.
Now melt the shredded mozzarella in a microwave safe bowl. The cheese should be melted but not burnt or browned. Add it to the dry ingredients and mix well.
Next knead the dough until it is uniform in consistency. You can heat the dough for 10-15 seconds if the cheese gets too stiff.
Once the dough is kneaded, roll out the dough thinly on a clean surface. It should be just a little thicker than normal chips.
Cut the dough into chips and bake in the oven for 12-15 minutes at 350. Flip the chips halfway to allow them to become golden all over.
Let the chips cool a bit so they can crisp before eating.
How Many Carbs In Popcorn

Make Sure The Cheese Dries Fully
The most critical part is for the cheese to dry fully. If its rubbery at all, it needs more time to dry.
The optional step of melting the cheese slightly first is not required, but makes more rounded keto popcorn AND also helps it puff up more than the regular cubes do. Youll still need to dry the cheese fully after the optional melting step.

Can You Eat Flock Chicken Skin Chips On The Keto Diet
The Flock Chicken Skin Chips are marketed as 100% ketogenic. And their net carbs say the same. They have none to 1 gram of net carbs per 28 gram bag.
But, if you see the ingredient list, you may notice that they do have some non-ketogenic ingredients. They use maltodextrin and modified corn starch, which are not ketogenic, but they are probably in small amounts, as they do not affect the net carb content. And they also use soybean oil, which is also not keto-friendly.
This makes them not suitable for a strict keto diet.
Overall, they are a great way to add crunch to your diet if you are on a low-carb diet or a keto diet if you do not mind small amounts of non-ketogenic ingredients and soybean oil.

What Is Popcorn Exactly
Popcorn kernels are simply dehydrated corn off the cob. They are then heated until the water thats left inside of them expands and the kernels explode open to around 40x their pre-popped size.
This delicious snack hack has been enjoyed for thousands of years. In fact, the first evidence of popcorn consumption was found on the coast of Peru, dating back over 6,000 years ago.
Today, youll find hundreds of popcorn products ranging from stovetop to microwavable, pre-popped pre-packaged to pure kernels, and a plethora of sweet, salty, and/or savory flavors. With all these choices, the world of popcorn can be overwhelming, especially on a low-carb keto diet.
This is why it is best to keep it as simple as possible with 100% unpopped kernels that youll pop yourself and add your preferred keto-friendly ingredients to boost the flavor and fat content.
We must keep in mind, however, that even in its purest form, popcorn contains the same starches found in the fresh ear of corn. To fit popcorn into your low-carb or keto diet, it is crucial that consider the carb content in each cup.

Popcorn Carbs And Diabetes
After numerous online resources refer to popcorn as a food that doesnt necessarily harm blood sugar levels, the question arises as to whether it is suitable for people with diabetes.
Cornstarch is a polysaccharide. Thats complex sugar. For this reason, many people talk about complex carbohydrates in connection with popcorn as being healthy.
Although popcorn does not cause enormously high blood sugar spikes, its glycemic index is not precisely low at 55.
It may be true that our liver first has to convert the multiple sugars into simple sugars , but that doesnt make it any less sugar.
Feeding diabetic people with foods that keep blood sugar at a continuously high level sounds as controversial as it is.
Permanently high blood sugar causes continuously high insulin levels, promoting insulin resistance, the root of type 2 diabetes .
So if you feel like developing diabetes or making it worse, you should regularly reach for popcorn and other foods that are predominantly complex sugars.
Melt Cheese Slightly Before Drying For The Best Shape
The optional step of melting the cheese slightly first is not required, but makes more rounded keto popcorn and also helps it puff up more than the regular cubes do.
I highly recommend this step, but do watch closely during initial melting! You want to just barely round the edges, but if the cheese melts into a completely flat puddle, it likely wont puff up later.
If the cheese melts too much, youll get cheese crisps instead of cheese puffs. Crisps are still delicious, but not the greatest keto popcorn substitute!

What Are Chips And Why Arent They Low Carb
Whether its potato chips or tortilla chips, these crispy snacks go through similar processes before hitting grocery store shelves.
The potato or tortilla is cut and sliced and then either baked or fried. For chips made from corn, grain, or legumes, theres a bit more processing. However, the end result is still baked or fried into thin crisps, usually using canola oil, vegetable oil, or soybean oil.
You should do your best to avoid all three of these oils. Mostly made from genetically modified seeds that are overheated or denatured in the manufacturing process, these oils can wreak havoc on your health.
Increased heart problems, risk of stroke and hypertension, decreased normal growth and development, as well as kidney and liver problems may result from overconsumption of these oils .
One serving of your classic potato chip is one ounce , creating a total of 160 calories. One ounce makes up about 15 grams of net carbs, two grams of protein, and 10 grams of fat. However, only about one gram of those fats are saturated.
Between the toxic fats and high carb count, most chips are a no-go if you want to stay in ketosis.
What About Movie Theater Popcorn
While the question of “is popcorn keto” can be debated, most would agree that movie theatre popcorn, specifically, is not keto-friendly because it is loaded with carbs, sodium, calories, sugar, and other additives.
One ounce of unbuttered, white popcorn has 21.8 carbs. And let’s be honest, how many of us are able to eat just an ounce of popcorn once we start.
High carb counts are only the beginning, too. Researchers found movie theater popcorn offerings range from 400 to 1,200 calories, with one to three days’ worth of saturated fat and up to 1,500 milligrams of sodium.
That is a serious amount of extra! Regal was the biggest culprit, and that’s not counting the carb-loaded drinks and candies that usually accompany the popcorn.
So what’s the short answer to having movie theater popcorn on keto? Heck no.
