Best Tasting Low Carb Tortillas

Corn Tortilla Carbs Are Tortillas Keto-Friendly?

What makes these particular low carb tortillas the best is the taste. I have tried numerous amounts of low carb tortillas, but to be honest I quit them a few years ago.

I personally am not a fan of the wheat tortilla taste and figured I would just make taco lettuce wraps or salads, giving up on keto tortillas.

Good news, now low carb tortillas that taste good are available in most grocery store or easily can be purchased online! I remember back when I first did a low carb diet in the 90s, there were such minimal options when it came to anything low carb bread related.

Low carb tortillas are definitely a tool to help me keep on track with the keto diet, especially when I am craving some mexican food. Lets be honest, I am ALWAYS craving mexican food!

When Tortillas Are Appropriate For A Low

With both flour and corn tortillas containing 12-15 grams of net carbs per ounce, it would be difficult to consume more than one small tortilla without exceeding your daily carb limit. When you think about it, one ounce is quite small and would not suffice to satisfy you.

However, if you want to eat tortillas on a low-carb, keto, or low-calorie diet, this amount is the way to go.

The keto diet recommends a daily net carb intake of 20-50 grams, which means that eating more than two ounces of tortillas may cause you to exit ketosis.

There are, however, ways to enjoy your favorite Mexican dishes while adhering to a low-carb or keto diet. Aside from substituting low-carb tortillas for regular tortillas, those who lead more physically active lives have the option of following a targeted keto diet or cyclical keto diet .

The ketogenic diet is a type of keto diet that caters to more active people by allowing an extra 25-50 grams of carbs up to 60 minutes before and after their workout window.

The CKD, on the other hand, is intended for athletes who train at such a high intensity that their bodies require extra carbs to replenish glycogen in their muscles.

The CKD follows a standard ketogenic diet five days a week, and on the other two days , it calls for a high-carb, low-fat ratio in which you can consume 400-600 carbs .

Tips For The Best Low Carb Tortillas

  • If this is your first time working with psyllium husks, youll need to be patient with the dough. This dough isnt like traditional bread or flour dough. It may seem too thick and sturdy, but once you knead it and pan fry it, it becomes much more fluffy and durable.
  • Be sure to use parchment paper to roll out the dough. This ensures it doesnt stick to the rolling pin and makes it easier to simply transfer directly onto the hot pan.
  • Add some spices to the dough for extra flavor! Garlic powder, onion powder, and even paprika are great ideas.
  • Do not prepare the dough in advance or chill it- its best made fresh.

However, if you still wish to eat corn and enjoy those beautiful memories, you can try incorporating half a cup of sweet corn or field corn into your diet if you are not following a strict keto diet. Since half a come of sweet corn has around 16-18 grams of net carbs, this can be used liberally during the week as a snack.

Baby corn, on the other hand, can be classified as ketogenic-friendly. Since one portion of baby corn contains fewer than 5 grams of net carbs, these can be easily included in your meals to ensure a better sensation of being full and absorbing the nutritional benefits of baby corn.
